Barnard College

New York City, NY

New York City, NY

Barnard College was founded in 1889 as a women’s college to give them the same access to education as the men at Columbia. I had no idea that Columbia was a men’s school until 1983! Barnard is a liberal arts college that has a partnership with Columbia. This offers the best of both worlds to their students because they have a warm and welcoming environment at Barnard with access to Columbia’s dining, library, 3000 classes, and extracurriculars. Barnard’s recent class is made up of 713 students with an acceptance rate of 8%. They filled 57% of their class with the early decision option.

They have a quad where all first year students live. These buildings are all connected, which helps foster a sense of community. 90% of first year students live on campus, and 70% of all students live on campus.
