College of the Holy Cross

The College of the Holy Cross is a highly selective liberal arts school that is ranked among the nation’s leading liberal arts schools. Last year, there were 3210 undergraduates. There is a 36% admit rate, and the middle 50% of SAT scores for those who chose to submit ranged from 1260 to 1430, and the ACT mid range was 28 to 32. They are a Division One school with 27 varsity sports, 10 to 12 intramural sports, and 27 club sports and are a founding member of the Patriot League which prizes academic excellence as well as athletic achievement. They also have 20 honor societies and a first year retention rate of 95%. The average class size is 19 students with a student to faculty ratio of ten to one. 96% of their professors have earned a terminal degree, and zero classes are taught by teaching assistants.
It is a Jesuit and Catholic school with a motto of “men and women for and with others.” They call their campus The Hill because it’s built into the side of Mount St. James with views of the city of Worcester, Massachusetts, which is the second largest city in New England. Holy Cross is located 44 miles west of Boston, 39 miles north of Providence, and 61 miles northeast of Hartford.
