Georgia Tech University
Atlanta, GA
Georgia Tech’s mission is progress and service. The whole university really revolves around that. They are working to push the boundaries of science and develop new technologies and then use them to uplift communities. They think it is important for students to see the big picture of what they are studying. Another motto of theirs is serve, learn, and sustain; they are big into sustainability. They encourage their students to use their knowledge to help others as a way of service.
Tech has 18,415 undergraduates, and 70% of their classes have 49 students or less. Their first year retention rate is 98%. The university is divided into six colleges: engineering, computing, design, science, business, and liberal arts. They offer 39 majors and 66 minors. This is by design. They are not trying to be all things to all people. They also emphasize the quality over quantity of their majors. The student to faculty ratio is 22 to 1.
