Cambridge, MA

MIT is located on a 1.5 mile stretch along the Charles River. The Visitor’s Center is in Kendall Square, which is known as the most innovative square in the world. Headquarters are located here for Google, Microsoft, Boeing, Pfizer, Moderna, and many other top companies. They like to say that they are located in the smarter half of Cambridge. The admissions representative described his school as a four-year nerd camp. He said it is the best place for a certain type of student.
MIT likes to solve problems. They educate students and develop technology to solve the world's problems as a team. They aim to make the world a better place. The “institute” in their name means that they work collaboratively with a shared mission. MIT is not just for students with the best SAT scores and grades. It is a school for problem solvers and people who like to work with others. Students here are certainly experts, but they are not experts on everything; they need to work with each other. It is a residential school that guarantees housing for all four years. Students are able to choose what dorm they would like out of the 11 dorms. There is no specific freshman dorm. Their campus has 200,000 ft.² of maker space – this is more than 2 1/2 football fields. Less than half of their students are engineers by major though.
